Palliative Medicine, 08/06/2009
Lundorff LE et al. – In a study to investigate the use of modafinil on attentional and psychomotor dysfunction in cancer pts, it was shown that modafinil in a single dose ... regarding 2 cognitive tests of psychomotor speed and attention. Subjective scores of depression and drowsiness were significantly improved by modafinil. Methods- 28 cancer pts with a tiredness score of 50 mm or more on a scale of 0 to 10 (0 = no tiredness, 10 = worst possible ... acting opioids for breakthrough pain.
- On day 1, pts were randomly assigned to receive 200 mg modafinil orally or placebo and on day 4 they crossed–over to the alternative treatment.
- Finger Tapping Test (FTT), Trail Making Test (TMT) and Edmonton Symptom Assessment System (ESAS ... significantly improved on modafinil.
- On ESAS, depression and drowsiness also improved statistically significantly

Armodafinil and Modafinil Have Substantially Different Pharmacokinetic Profiles Despite Having the Same Terminal Half-Lives: Analysis of Data from Three Randomized, Single-Dose, Pharmacokinetic Studies
Clinical Drug Investigation, 08/13/2009

Darwish M et al. – Despite similar half–lives, plasma concentrations following ... late in the day than those following modafinil administration on a milligram–to–milligram basis. The different pharmacokinetic profile of armodafinil may result in improved wakefulness throughout the day in patients with ES compared with modafinil.
