New effort in developing world to share ip to fight neglected tropical diseases Full Text
Biopharmaceutical research companies have long supported efforts like Global Health Progress to identify global health challenges and find solutions. In this vein, I saw this item on–line today in the Telegraph out of Calcutta, India: Leading Pharmaceutical Companies & Research Institutions Offer IP and Expertise for Use in Treating Neglected Tropical Diseases as Part of WIPO Re:Search. The story highlights a new consortium of public and private sector organizations coming together to share valuable intellectual property (IP) and expertise with the global health research community to promote development of new drugs, vaccines, and diagnostics to treat neglected tropical diseases, malaria, and tuberculosis. It is just one more of a number of global initiatives spearheaded by biopharmaceutical research companies to find better solutions for some of the biggest global health challenges.
