Essential Fatty Acids: Food for mind and body
Acta Pediatrica, 05/31/2012
Forbes D et al. – A study reported in this issue of the journal throws further light onto the complex metabolic disarray that malnutrition in anorexia nervosa represents, and raises further questions about potential therapeutic direction, and in particular the role and status of Essential Fatty Acids EFAs in anorexia nervosa.
- Anorexia nervosa is a relatively common psychiatric disorder that appears during a critical phase of development with profound physical consequences.
- The clinical manifestations are primarily of severe, chronic malnutrition that involves all organ systems.
- The causes, course and optimal treatments are still not well understood.
