Carter J – Retinoblastoma is a malignancy which develops in the retina of children usually under the age of 5 years. It is most commonly detected by parents who seek advice in general practice or from an optician. Unfortunately, many patients face a delay in diagnosis and treatment owing to a lack of awareness of the significance of the signs described by parents or observed by primary health professionals. The common signs of retinoblastoma will be highlighted in this article and the investigations and management of a patient in general practice will be discussed.
