Khadilkar A et al. – No subject had clinical or radiological evidence of rickets. There was a significant increase in mean serum iCa concentration in supplemented but not in the placebo group. The decrease in mean serum Pi concentration in supplemented group was greater than in the placebo group. The mean serum PTH fell in the Ca supplemented but not in the placebo group. The mean serum FGF–23 concentration did not change in response to Ca supplementation. From these data authors conclude that low dietary Ca intake is associated with resistance to PTH.
