These findings support an important role of TCF7L2 in insulin resistance, in addition to the well-known effect on insulin secretion, which leads to increased risk to T2D and some other insulin resistance-related phenotypes. This data provides evidence showing that different variants of the same gene might be associated with risk of T2D through different mechanism.
