Misconceptions regarding levalbuterol in the treatment of acute asthma exacerbations in children
The American Journal of Emergency Medicine, 12/19/08
Uspal NG et al. - Authors have demonstrated that the reported physician knowledge deficit over the pharmacology of albuterol isomers may be misguiding physicians to inappropriately prescribe levalbuterol hoping that it will reduce side effects. This is contrary to evidence from well-designed randomized controlled clinical trials that show no additional benefit in using levalbuterol over racemic albuterol in children with acute asthma exacerbations.
