Kane S – A 38–year–old man with a 5 year history of ulcerative colitis presents for follow–up. He was diagnosed at age 33 when he presented with diarrhea, bleeding, urgency cramps, and weight loss. He was treated with a short course of prednisone and has never been hospitalized for his disease. He was initiated on 4.8 grams of mesalamine as he stated he "would never take steroids again."
