DeFrancesco MS – New federal regulations aimed at preventing identify theft take effect on November 1, 2009. Primarily, this new mandate demands compliance. The point of the program is to help protect our patients and our practices from identity theft. Much of it is common sense, but as we often discover, common sense is sometimes uncommon. A formalized program will help us to watch for these red flags. Fortunately, the AMA and ACOG have excellent tools available to members to assist in developing and adopting their own programs.
