Toop L et al. – Dipstick rule: a positive test was the presence of either (i) nitrite or (ii) the combination of blood and leucocytes. Clinical rule: a positive test was the presence of 2 of cloudy urine, urine with an offensive smell, moderately bad dysuria, and moderately bad nocturia...In women presenting to primary care with suspected urinary tract infection, the dipstick rule modestly improved diagnostic precision, but the clinical rule was of limited value. Neither rule was useful for ruling out infection.
