Calcium oxalate stone and gout
Urological Research - Urolithiasis, 09/29/09
Marickar YMF – The high values of promoters, namely uric acid and calcium in the gouty stone patients indicate the tendency for urinary stone formation in the gouty stone patients. There is probably a correlation between gout and calcium oxalate urinary stone. The authors presume this mechanism is achieved through the uric acid metabolism. The findings point to the summation effect of metabolic changes in development of stone disease.

| Our experiences indicate that idiopathic calcium oxalate urolithiasis and uric acid metabolism are closely interrelated. The present findings add credence to this view. Many calcium oxalate stone formers develop gout because of the increased uric acid levels in blood and urine. The paper reiterates our concept that metabolic management of idiopathic calcium oxalate stone disease should include control of oxalate and uric acid abnormalities. |
