Linzer M et al. - Primary care working conditions are often stressful, but it is unclear whether adverse working conditions contribute to errors or adversely affect the quality of patient care. In an analysis of working conditions, physician reactions to those conditions, and health care quality at 119 ambulatory care clinics in the Midwest and New York, New York, these researchers found strong associations between adverse working conditions and adverse physician reactions but no associations between adverse working conditions and health care quality or errors. Adverse work conditions are associated with adverse physician reactions, but no consistent associations were found between adverse work conditions and the quality of patient care, and no associations were seen between adverse physician reactions and the quality of patient care.
