Menke MN et al. - Differences in mean retinal thickness measurements between OCT models were statistically significant. Mean retinal thickness measurement with Cirrus OCT, RTVue OCT and with Stratus OCT was 300, 265 and 257 µm, respectively. Measurements with different OCT models lead to significantly different retinal thickness values.

Marcel N. Menke, 07/02/09

Recently an increasing number of various OCT models have been introduced. In the future, clinicians as well as researcher will be confronted with OCT data of different OCT models. Therefore it is important to know the differences between these machines. Mainly differences between the automated retinal thickness measurement algorithms account for the variations in thickness measurements. Correction factors may have to be applied to make retinal thickness measurements of different OCT models more comparable.
