Hulsman RL - Modeling medical communication as goal-oriented problem-solving behavior, and recognizing the complexity of goal appraisal and other key determinants of response formation may provide a common focus for both research and education in measuring, explaining and improving the HCP's behavior. In education not only skill practicing but also reflection on the process and outcomes is important to understand how one acts in practice situations and should act in future situations. In research measurements should be expanded to take contextual and goal-oriented dimensions of the process of communication into account to make findings more relevant for education and practice.
