Bhattacharyya OK et al. - Clinical practice guidelines are designed to enable health care providers to engage with the evidence and better apply it in their practices. For conditions like type 2 diabetes, which are complex and multidimensional, treatment plans should be developed and discussed with patients. This might require stepwise introduction of various treatments and tests, and continued patient education, so that patients understand the value that each intervention has for optimizing their health.
