Lui H et al. – The decision to operate depends on the symptoms of the patient, the severity of the deformity, and the effect of the deformity on function. In the absence of symptoms and of progression of the deformity, moderate hallux varus should not be treated operatively. In contrast,if a patient has pain and severe hallux varus deformity, then operative management is a reasonable choice.
