Baron B et al. – The authors propose novel perspectives to maximize performance and to avoid overtraining by paying attention also to the emotional state in training process.

Exclusive Author Commentary
Bertrand Baron , 09/21/09

Whereas the pacing strategy is an important factor of performance in middle and long duration sporting competitions, it is often ignored in training methods. Although it is well known that experienced athletes develop a stable template of the power outputs they are able to sustain for different durations of exercise, it is not known neither how they originally develop this template nor how improving that with training. The aim of this review is to propose a complex model interpretation of this process in order to consider novel perspectives to maximize performance and to avoid overtraining by paying attention not only to the physiological responses but also to the emotional state in training process.
