Huffman LK et al. – This technique has been reported to repair defects up to 25 cm in length. To repair large deficits an ample amount of bone graft must be harvested. Traditionally, the most common site for harvesting autologous bone graft is the iliac crest. The Reamer–Irrigator–Aspirator is a newer technique has been developed that is less invasive and can yield a higher graft volume. The RIA system seems to be superior to pelvic crest bone graft in that it can yield approximately 60 cm to 80 cm of bony graft.
