Matsuo K et al. – This is the first report ascertaining the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency rickets in Hokkaido, Japan. Limited exposure to sunlight and inadequate diet in early childhood are key risk factors of this disease. Thus, it is crucial to introduce active recommendations for vitamin D supplementation based on age, residential area, and to advocate public awareness for preventing this disease.
