Martín AJ et al. – Cranney observed a statistically significant reduction of risk of fracture for the hip or wrist, with alendronate. Delmas observed a reduction of 43% of risk of fracture of the hip after 12 months with risedronate, as compared with alendronate. Skedros recognised that for some orthopaedic surgeons, osteoporosis is not a priority, although for Herrera medical awareness of the problem has brought about an increase in diagnosis from 8% to 52% and therapeutic indices of 72.5%.
