The new humeral nail which is presented in the article is the result of an ongoing research regarding the diaphyseal humeral fractures. This research resulted in two articles describing the reasons for differenciating the intramedullary nailing of humeral shaft fractures from the intramedullary nailing of femoral and tibial fractures and have been published in the Current Orthopaedics (2001 and 2005). Furthermore, in the 2005 article, humeral nails were grouped into two categories ("fixed" and "bio") depending on the way used to provide stability to the fracture site. In the present article that has been just published in "INJURY", the theory comes to practice as the biomechanical properties of the new nail, the surgical technique for its insertion and the means used for providing stability to the fracture site, follow the guidelines proposed in the previous articles. The aim is to reveal the individualities of the intramedullary nailing procedure in the humerus and with the help of a suitable implant, contribute to the improvement of the results of the method whenever appplied to fractures of the humeral diaphysis. |
