Byrd JWT et al. - This study substantiates the long-term effectiveness of arthroscopy in the hip as treatment for various disorders, including labral pathology, chondral damage, synovitis, and loose bodies. Arthritis is an indicator of poor long-term outcomes with these reported methods.
Methods- Aim was to investigate the response to hip arthroscopy with 10 yrs f/u
- Pts were assessed with a modified Harris hip score preoperatively and then postoperatively at 3, 12, 24, 60, and 120 mo
- 50 pts (52 hips) was identified who had achieved 10-yr f/u
- Average age: 38 yrs (range, 14–84 yrs), with 27 males and 23 females
- Median improvement was 25 points (preoperative, 56 points; postoperative, 81 points)
- 14 pts were converted to THA and 2 died
- 4 pts underwent repeat arthroscopy
- There were 2 complications in 1 patient
- Presence of arthritis at the time of the index procedure was an indicator of poor prognosis
