Brown A et al. - Total hip arthroplasty (THA) done using the anterior Smith-Petersen surgical approach is a true muscle-sparing approach that is less invasive than other methods of performing THA. When performed in the supine position on a modified orthopedic table, it obviates the need for a second incision for femoral stem insertion.
