Primary total hip arthroplasty with modular stems
Current Orthopaedic Practice , 02/15/08
Keggi KJ et al. - Modular components are easier to insert and cause less tissue damage as they are inserted. The variety of stems and necks that can be mixed, matched, and selected for optimum prosthetic placement at the time of surgery also leads to faster recovery and better outcomes. These factors also decrease the cost of the procedure, which is a major consideration as surgeons face an aging population with a greatly increased need of hip replacements for degenerative disease and fractures.
