Agarwal A et al. – Certain lacerating injuries of the anterior segment are particularly amenable to cataract extraction and IOL implantation at the time of primary laceration repair. This approach obviates additional operative and anesthetic risks, while affording timelier visual rehabilitation. Secondary lens removal may also be indicated in cases of severe corneal injury and marked edema, which may interfere with intraocular visualization.
