Gardner TW et al. – This study documents the relationship between duration of DMO and progressive vision loss, and the key role of central foveal involvement in patients with diabetic retinopathy. These data will help to develop future strategies to prevent vision loss.

The data from the trials of ruboxistaurin provide the first opportunity to assess the relationship between the duration and location of diabetic macular edema and visual acuity loss. These results help to better understand the mechanisms of vision loss in persons with diabetes and to plan future therapeutic trials.
