Cyclosporine ophthalmic emulsion 0.05% not only alleviates the symptoms of dry eye disease but also prevents its progression, according to the results of a recent study. Patients who have moderate to severe dry eye disease particularly can benefit from the topical application of anti–inflammatory medications such as cyclosporine because artificial tears and other treatments often are inadequate in this patient population, according to one ophthalmologist.
