Iqniebi A et al. – Patients with VKH had significantly greater incidence of HLA–DRB1 *0405 when compared to age and sex–matched controls. Consequently, this finding suggests that HLA–DRB1 *0405 allele might play a role in the pathogenesis of VKH disease.

Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada (VKH) is the most common cause of panuveitis in Saudi Arabia. Complete VKH with ocular findings and associated meningeal and cutaneous changes is the most common form of the disease. The disease pathogenesis is poorly understood. The association of HLA-DRB1 0405 with complete VKH in Saudi Arabia is interesting and matches those studies from Brazil and Japan.
