Klettner AK et al. - Bevacizumab, but not Ranibizumab, accumulates in RPE cells over time, implying substantial differences between these two drugs.

Exclusive Author Commentary
Alexa Karina Klettner, 07/22/09

In this article, the authors show a profound difference between Ranibizumab and Bevacizumab. Bevacizumab is taken up and accumulated in RPE cells, Ranibizumab is not. The actual clinical consequences of this finding, which was acquired in vitro in porcine cells, are not known. However, it shows clearly that the two drugs are not identical in their impact on ocular tissue and this might indicate different long term effects of the two VEGF-inhibitors.
