As reported in the Journal of Pathology, the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR)-1 is elevated in invasive hepatocellular cancer (HCC) specimens. In a study based on 135 HCC specimens, elevated VEGFR-1 was also associated with worse recurrence-free and overall survival.

The pre-operative cell-free DNA of genes (B2M, RAB25, CLDN4, and ABCF2) were measured and RAB25 was shown to be an independent prognostic factor.
