VEGFR-1 is a prognostic marker for HCC

As reported in the Journal of Pathology, the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR)-1 is elevated in invasive hepatocellular cancer (HCC) specimens. In a study based on 135 HCC specimens, elevated VEGFR-1 was also associated with worse recurrence-free and overall survival.

HCC risk increased in patients with AIDS

As reported in Cancer, researchers from the NCI have reported that patients with AIDS have a 4-fold increased risk of HCC compared to the general population. The study findings were based on 615,150 patients with AIDS between 1980 and 2009. The risk for HCC in patients with AIDS was essentially the same during the monotherapy/dual therapy and highly active anti-retroviral therapy eras.

RAB25 is a prognostic marker for ovarian cancer

As reported in the International Journal of Cancer Research and Treatment, the pre-operative level of RAB25 is a predictor of disease-free survival (HR=18.2) and overall survival (HR=33.6) in patients with ovarian cancer. The study involved 36 and 16 women with ovarian cancer and benign tumors, respectively. The pre-operative cell-free DNA of genes (B2M, RAB25, CLDN4, and ABCF2) were measured and RAB25 was shown to be an independent prognostic factor.
