Developments in the prevention of transfusion-associated graft-versus-host disease

Fast LD et al. – The methods have been found to be as effective as γ–irradiation in preventing T lymphocyte proliferation and transfusion–associated graft–versus–host disease (TA–GVHD) responses. Additional benefits of pathogen reduction protocols potentially include inhibition of antigen presentation, cytokine production and activation of lymphocytes.
