Liver transplantation in septuagenarians receiving meld exception points for hepatocellular carcinoma: The national experience
Liver Transplantation, 06/01/2012
Schwartz JJ et al. – While patients ≥ 70 comprise a small fraction of the transplants performed in the U.S., patients in this cohort transplanted for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are an even smaller subset. Overall, transplantation in this age group yields outcomes inferior to younger cohorts. However, unlike the <70 population receiving MELD exception points, overall liver transplant survival is not impacted by HCC at advanced age.
