Liu K et al. – The authors' results also indicate that deregulation of Tsc/mTOR signaling in oocytes may cause pathological conditions of the ovary such as infertility and POF.

Exclusive Author Commentary
Kui Liu, 10/21/09

The results indicate that the suppressed mTOR signaling by Tsc1-Tsc2 complex is important to maintain the primordial follicles at a dormant state, in order to provide eggs for later use; and mTOR activity is important for activation of primordial follicles. These results are corroborated by another paper of ours: Deepak Adhikari, Wenjing Zheng, Yan Shen, Nagaraju Gorre, Tuula Hämäläinen, Austin J. Cooney, Ilpo Huhtaniemi, Zi-Jian Lan, and Kui Liu Tsc/mTORC1 signaling in oocytes governs the quiescence and activation of primordial follicles.
