Combined Spinal Epidural for Caesarean Section in Patients with Kyphoscoliosis
Journal of Anaesthesiology Clinical Pharmacology, 10/19/09
Saxena KN et al. – Kyphoscoliosis is associated with restrictive ventilatory defect and neurological disorders such as syringomyelia, muscular dystrophy etc and congenital heart disease. The severity of scoliosis is proportional to the respiratory complications i.e. restrictive lung disease leading to pulmonary hypertension and cor pulmonale. CSE is a useful technique for abdominal surgery in patients with kyphoscoliosis as the morbidity associated with general anaesthesia can be avoided. This needs to be studied further to make this technique the safe choice.
