Obstetric fistula in India: current scenario

This information could be used for implementation of prevention and treatment strategies.

| Though most developed countries have been able to tackle the problem of obstructed labour and its consequences like obstetric fistula, the problem in India continues and is unevenly distributed. With increased availability of safe motherhood facilities and caesarean section facilities, fistulae due to obstructed labour appear to be on the decline. However, the proportion of genital fistulae due to pelvic surgery may increase. It is prudent therefore to establish a surveillance system on genital fistulae in women |
