The importance of precise pT diagnosis for prognostic prediction of uterine cervical cancer—a single institutional report at a Japanese comprehensive cancer hospital
Virchows Archiv, 09/30/09
Teramoto N et al. – The results indicated that pT2 of UCC could be frequently misdiagnosed at an institutional level, and that misdiagnosed pT2 might impair the evidence–based medicine of UCC. Multi–institutional assessment of the accuracy of pTNM is recommended, because it is not likely that this is an endemic problem to the hospital.

| TNM of female genitary organ cancer has least accuracy among common tumor sites according to the report by Brierley et al (J Clin Oncol, 2002). TNM has many pitfalls that lead incorrect classifications and destroys the prognostic significance of T. In cervical cancer, the pitfall lurks in microinvasive carcinoma and T2. Not only uterine cervical cancer but cancers of other tumor sites will have similar problems which need to be clarified. |
