Winters U et al. – A total of 60 women undergoing LLETZ were randomised into two groups. The control group received local anaesthesia by deep injection into the substance of the cervix. The study group received an equivalent amount of local anaesthetic but this was injected superficially prior to deep injection into the cervix. Pain was assessed using a visual analogue scale. Women in the study arm experienced less pain than controls during injection of local anaesthetic.
