Sexual dysfunction in women with obstructive sleep apnea
Sleep and Breathing, 08/19/09
Subramanian S et al. – The prevalence of sexual dysfunction is high among women with OSA. Physicians should routinely screen and evaluate women with OSA for sexual dysfunction.
Shyam Subramanian, 08/25/09
| Sexual dysfuntion - especially erectile dysfunction - is well-studied and recognized as a co-morbid feature of obstructive sleep apnea in men. However sexual dysfunction in women has not been well-studied and is significantly under-appreciated. Our study shows that women with sleep apnea have significant degree of sexual dysfunction, and hopefully will stimulate further research in this important area and alert clinicians taking care of women with sleep apnea to not ignore this aspect of their patient's symptoms. |
