Modi D et al. – The observation suggests that the CAG repeat length is increased in women with POF as compared with controls, and may be pathogenic for POF, at least in a subset of Indian women.

Exclusive Author Commentary
Deepak Modi, 08/25/09

Androgen receptors have been recently specualted to have a role in ovarain physiology and mice without androgen receptors have a POF like phenotype. The CAG repeat in the exon 1 of human androgen receptor is a determiant of its functionality. Longer CAG repeats lesser the activity, shoter repeats means high activity. Our analysis showed that the CAG repeat in exon 1 of androgen receptor is increased in POF cases. We belive that this extended repeats might reduce androgen receptor activity leading to POF in atleast some of the cases.
