Klapper AS et al. – Tension–free vaginal tape (TVT) is commonly considered as the first line of treatment for stress urinary incontinence (SUI) with demonstrated efficacy and limited complications.

Exclusive Author Commentary
Allan S. Klapper, 08/03/09

Tension-free vaginal tape is routinely performed as a first line treatment for stress urinary incontinence with excellent results. However, major complications such as small bowel perforation may occur and should be incorporated into the preoperative discussion with the patient. Reduction of associated prolapse, trendelenberg position and close approximation of the symphysisi may limit these complications.
