Pretreatment tumor diameter/volume and pelvic lymph node status assessed by magnetic resonance imaging for uterine cervical carcinoma treated with concurrent chemotherapy and radiotherapy
Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Research, 09/05/08
Kim HJ et al. - Tumor volume and enlarged pelvic lymph nodes seen on pretreatment MRI were significant prognostic factors for pts with invasive cervical carcinoma treated with concurrent chemotherapy and radiotherapy
Methods- Study of the prognostic value of tumor diameter and volume and pelvic lymph node status assessed by MRI in pts with uterine cervical carcinoma treated with concurrent chemotherapy and radiotherapy
- Review of 98 pts diagnosed with stage IB to IIIB cervical carcinoma Tumor diameter evaluated in T2-weighted imageTumor volume calculated by equation (volume = width × length × height × π/6) as ellipsoid approximation
- Univariate and multivariate analyses for prognostic factors for overall survival (OS), disease-free survival (DFS), pelvic control (PC) and distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS)
- 5-yr rates: OS 59.8%; DFS 57.3%; PC 67.9%; DMFS 78.8%
- In univariate analyses, large MRI tumor diameter (≥4 cm), large tumor volume (≥30 mL), pelvic enlarged pelvic lymph nodes, large clinical diameter (≥4 cm) and FIGO stage had a statistically significant unfavorable effect on OS and DFS
- In multivariate analyses, large tumor volume affected OS, DFS, PC, and DMFS; enlarged pelvic lymph nodes also affected OS
