Bone Metabolism in Patients with Primary Hyperparathyroidism Before and After Surgery
Hormone and Metabolic Research, 07/06/2012
Kerschan–Schindl K et al. – In patients with Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT), males appear to be more severely affected than females. Within the first year after parathyroidectomy (PTX), bone metabolism normalized, and bone mineral density (BMD) of the lumbar spine increased. Patients who needed a supplementation with calcium and vitamin D after PTX preoperatively had higher serum levels of Parathyroid hormone (PTH).
