Chen CC et al. – A 67–year–old man with diabetes mellitus presented to emergency department with hematemesis. He had undergone laparoscopic cholecystectomy 2 months previously. On arrival, his blood pressure was 97/50 mmHg and his heart rate was 101 bpm. Laboratory tests revealed a hemoglobin concentration of 9.3 g/dL (normal, 12.3–18.3), elevated urea (29 mg/dL; normal, 8.0–20.0), and normal creatinine (0.9 mg/dL). Liver function tests and prothrombin time were within normal limits.
