Consensus Guidelines in the Management of Branch Duct Intraductal Papillary Mucinous Neoplasm: A Cost-Effectiveness Analysis
Digestive Diseases and Sciences, 10/21/09
Huang ES et al. – Immediate surgery is the most effective, but may be prohibitively expensive. The surveillance strategy is a cost–effective option compared to no surveillance.
Edward S. Huang, 10/21/09
| Branch duct intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (BD-IPMN) is an increasing entity that physicians find on CT scan. The big question is what to do with these lesions. Even though these lesions are pre-malignant, the literature suggests the rate of progression to malignancy is rather slow. This study addresses whether monitoring these lesions according to the consensus guidelines recommended by the International Association of Pancreatology is a reasonable strategy in comparison to surgery or doing nothing. |
