Hunter LA et al. – LNG is now available as a single–dose emergency contraceptive that can be sold over the counter to individuals age 17 and older. This is a landmark victory for women seeking to maintain control of their reproductive health that has evolved after much controversy and debate. Clinicians remain an important source of information about all of the available contraceptive options, including backup strategies. Future efforts should be directed towards removing the internal and external barriers that limit availability and access to emergency contraception.
