Von Wagner C et al. – The framework outlines routes through which health literacy might affect either health actions themselves or the motivational and volitional determinants that have been identified in social cognition models. Exclusive Author Commentary
Christian von Wagner, 10/08/09

In this article we have attempted to summarise and review the extensive body of literature that has accumulated over the last decade on this important issue. Furthermore we emphasised the importance of integrating health literacy into wider models of health behaviour particularly those rooted in social cognition. We hope that this should increase general interest by the health psychology community in this field both in terms of adding it as an important explanatory variable into their investigations of health behaviour but also as an important target for health care interventions which aim to reduce existing inequalities in access and use of health services.
