Patient education around cardiac surgery
British Journal of Cardiac Nursing, 10/02/09
Goodman H – This article considers the content and format of patient education before cardiac surgery, with a review of the literature on patients' needs at this time, and previous methods used. Patient education has long been an important part of nursing care. However, time pressure such as the 18–weeks target from GP referral to surgery and the need for more patients to be prepared in a shorter time frame should prompt nurses to review how information is presented and provide it in a timely and effective manner.
