Understanding polycystic ovary syndrome
Nurse Prescribing, 09/21/09
Raisbeck E – Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) affects up to 20% of women in the UK but it is often un–diagnosed, misdiagnosed or dismissed by the medical profession. However, the now–established link between the insulinaemia in PCOS, hyperlipidaemia and heart disease, and the risk of endometrial cancer, mean that this is not acceptable. In addition patients need support in tackling the cosmetic consequences of the condition which affect their self–esteem.
