Physical Activity, Sedentary Time, and Pericardial Fat in Healthy Older Adults
Obesity, 04/06/2012Hamer M et al.
The inverse association between physical activity and pericardial fat was stronger among overweight and obese adults than in normal weight. Objectively assessed daily activity levels are related to pericardial fat in healthy participants, independently of BMI. This might be an important mechanism in explaining the association between physical activity and cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevention.

Hidden fat stores that surround internal organs are a particularly potent risk factor. These data show , for the first time, that physical activity is inversely associated with pericardial fat, which is the fat tissue surrounding the heart and is associated with coronary heart disease risk. This underlines the importance of Physical activity in CVD prevention.
